Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard

Apr 29, 1971
Avant-garde French artist Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard creates her incredible art installations using fish heads bought from her local fishmonger. Taking her inspiration from the silent films of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin that she watched as a child, Anne-Catherine’s depictions of fish as prisoners, chat show participants and condom factory workers can take up to three months to prepare and build. Everything from the costumes the fish heads are attached to and the props involved in the shoot are created by Anne-Catherine. She does not use photo-shop at any point to enhance her detailed work. Reflecting her political and ethical beliefs, Anne-Catherine believes that fish can best reflect her rage at societies hypocrisy.
